Green Games x Sustainable Development Goals

SDG-1 No Poverty:

Within the framework of the "Happy Future" activity program, will be organized a campaign led by famous athletes to provide with opportunities for vulnerable children and young people to train with sports.


SDG-2 Zero Hunger:

The next program to be implemented within the framework of the International Youth Green Games is the “Green Mail” activity program, which promotes the protection and preservation of the planet and the rational use of food through cognitive-training and advertisements with support of public and social figures starting from March 2020. And IYGGOC will cooperate with environmental companies that process natural fertilizers from food waste during the Games organization.


SDG-3 Good Health and Well-Being

Before and during the Games, a series of events and activities for citizens will be organized to promote the importance of physical activity and sports. It means, starting from May 2020, a series of sports events that are popular with young people, such as cross-country marathon, roller skating marathon, parkour, teqball, duathlon, street workout, break dance, street BMX tournaments and activities will be organized. The events will promote the idea that everyone is available to play sports with no cost.


SDG-4 Quality Education:

Within framework of “Happy Future” activity program and to support “Quality Physical Education” project trainings for physical education teachers, training and advertisements for children to educate inform about physical activity and sports will conducted.


SDG-5 Gender Equality:

To meet gender equality of Green Games, gender percentage of participants will be 50/50.


SDG-6 Clean Water and Sanitation:

For the organization of Green Games eco-friendly, progressive "ECO" portable temporary toilets will be widely installed. Advertisement and information about clean water usage and reduce environmental pollution will be promoted within framework of “Green Mail” activity program. 


SDG-7 Affordable and Clean Energy:

14 types of, 56 percent of all Green Games Sports, will be organized outdoor and the renewable energy (solar energy) will be used for the organization of outdoor competitions.


SDG-8 Decent Work and Economic Growth:

The Games will provide temporary employment for 2,000 volunteers and about 4,000 auxiliary staff, as well as improve the working condition for more than 80 workplaces of 24 associations. Also, providing 25 sports associations with international standard sports equipment will allow thousands of athletes to play sports in facilities that meets the standards.


SDG-9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure:

Swimming competitions will be organized in the first Mongolian environmentally friendly, cost-effective, with international standard – 50 meters in length 10-section swimming pool, which will be built within framework of the Games.


SDG-10 Reduced Inequalities:

The International Youth Green Games will be organized with type of Sports, Paralympic Games, Special Olympics, and Deaflympics, which will provide opportunities for young people to understand one another despite their disabilities.


SDG-11 Sustainable cities and communities:

To support “UB Bike” program organized by Ulaanbaatar city, which purpose is to reduce mobile car usage and traffic jam, bike, scooter, and roller skate competition and activities will be organized during the Games. Also volunteer, organizing the Games, will be able to use rental bikes. The Games will employ 2,000 volunteers of working age and older, to provide opportunities for all ages to study.


SDG-12 Responsible consumption and production:

As part of the “Green Mail” activation program informative training and advertisement to disseminate awareness of to love and protect our environment will be conducted for publicity, as well as to reduce glossy bags by producing eco-bags from poster boards (fabric publications) used in organization of the Games. Also, all participants and organizers will be provided with reusable spoons, forks and drinking pipes to refuse from disposable plastic products and waste recycled products such as chairs, reward stand will be widely used for the organization.


SDG-13: Climate Action:

Organize Green Games that increase youth participation in mitigate the effects of global climate change, minimize the use of vehicles and promote renewable energy and to have less firewood and carbon dioxide emission, torch won’t be used as a benchmark for others.


SDG-14: Life Below Water:

At the Green Games, an International FORUM will be organized to learn from best practices and achievements of international youth, decision makers, and environmental and social leadersin implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.


SDG-15: Life on Land:

To contribute in reducing air pollution in Ulaanbaatar, Green Games, plant a tree with the support of Games participants and establish “United Nations Youth Green Garden”. Implement a waste management and awareness-raising program in collaboration with professional government and non-governmental organizations to contribute to the education of waste management in Ulaanbaatar city.


SDG-16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions:

To support the “Sport for Peace” project the Green Games will encourage young athletes from UN-sponsored refugee camp to participate in the International Green Youth Games.


SDG-17 Partnerships for the Goals:

As a part of International Youth Green Games the “Young Reporter” program will invite 10 young reporters, who will announce the news of the Games worldwide, in 5 official languages of the United Nations. Also the IYGGOC will cooperate in hosting games in other countries to focus on challenges the country face and find a solution by supporting SDG-s through sport.
